We Love science: Art meets Science at the Observatory of Roque de Los Muchachos

Inspired by the dialogue between science and contemporary art, the project “We Love Science”, vision and creativity Made in Italy, is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and curated by Spazio Taverna (Ludovico Pratesi and Marco Bassan).

“We Love science” brought together 8 artists of the latest generations (Giulio Bensasson, Ruth Beraha,Antonio Della Guardia, Irene Fenara, Margherita Raso, Davide Stucchi, Serena Vestrucci and Jonathan Vivacqua) and invited them to create a work inspired by the activities of 8 Italian Scientific Centres of excellence identified by the Ministry, between them the Italian telescope, Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, instaled in La Palma.

The Telescopio Nazionale Galileo actively participated in the creation of one of these contemporary art pieces (titled: The Other), as a result of the visit of the artist Ruth Berhaha at the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory during the summer of 2022.

The exhibition was brought to La Palma thanks to the effort of the TNG and the Vice Consul of Arona (Tenerife), G. Cappelli Bigazzi. The Vice Consul and the director of the TNG A. Ghedina celebrated the opening ceremony on saturday February 3rd, with the participation of the Consul of Alemania, the Consejera de Turismo de Garafia (D. Sgobino) and the ex director of TNG Ennio Poretti, who originally requested to have the Exposition also in La Palma.

At the ceremony several members of Italian community in Canary Island were present, together with the staff of the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo and other institutions of the Observatory of the Roque de Los Muchachos.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with a visit to the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, which was the protagonist of one of the works in the exhibition.
