The Fate of Planets

Speaker: Eva Villaver (Universidad Autonoma de Madrid)

Date and time: 2013-03-22 11:30

In the last years, planets have been discovered around evolved stars, mostly, along the Red Giant but also along the Horizontal Branch. Moreover, disks have been found around White Dwarfs presumably formed by tidally disrupted asteroids. In all, there is evidence that an evolved (ing) star might influence the survival of planets. Furthermore, evolved stars allow us to explore a parameter space in planet formation not easily accessible from the main sequence. In this talk I will try to summarize what we have learned studying planetary systems orbiting evolved stars.
